Job Opportunity: Volunteer Coordinator at Star Vista Crisis Intervention & Suicide Prevention Center

StarVista CISPC has been the only 24-hour suicide and crisis hotline in San Mateo County. This telephone-accessed service is staffed 24-hours a day, 365 days a year through a combination of paid staff and over 50 trained volunteers. The Center is both a critical first point of contact for people in need of referrals to social services and a last resort for people on the brink of suicide to reach out for help.

The volunteer coordinator will be responsible for maintaining the crisis line and its volunteer program, as well as assisting with the development of the new crisis text services to youth that will begin in August 2020.

Job Title: Volunteer Coordinator
Hours: Full-time, 40 Hour/week
Program/Department: Crisis Intervention and Suicide Prevention Center
Salary/Status: DOE, Exempt 40 hours a week.
Availability: **Position to start August 1. Ideal candidate can participate in training sessions Tues/Thurs (6-9pm) in July.**

Job Opportunities: Peer Support Line Counselors

The CalHOPE Crisis Counseling Program (by the Department of Health Care Services) has positions open for COVID-19 Peer Emotional Support Line Counselors for the California Peer-Run Warm Line operated by Mental Health Association (MHA) of San Francisco.

The applicants do not have to be licensed or certified counselors, but can be peers with lived experience.

NAMI’s Recruiting for an Education Coordinator

NAMI San Mateo is seeking a part-time Education Coordinator, 25 hours per week.  The Education Program Coordinator will be responsible for organizing and setting up NAMI program classes, including Family to Family, Peer to Peer, Provider Education, Basics and Ending the Silence, as well as arranging for teacher/facilitator training/meetings for all programs and support groups, and identifying additional organizations for program delivery.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Promotes thru outreach, plans, and schedules all education programs.
  • Updates existing programs to keep current with NAMI standards.
  • Prepares program materials for teachers and participants.
  • Communicates with teachers to ensure successful programs.
  • Keep up-to-date records in Excel of current waitlists for classes.
  • Reports NAMI class info when class is complete – internally & externally
  • Creates flyers and brochures for education programs.
  • Assists with special events such as NAMI General Meeting.
  • Works with staff and volunteers
  • Research/Plan outreach to identify additional presentation opportunities
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of NAMI programs with preference to having taken one of our classes.
  • Must have excellent organizational and communication skills. 
  • Flexibility to work outside of regular schedule when needed for training or special events.
  • Proficient with MS Office programs including Excel, Word, Publisher and Outlook.

ODE advances health equity in behavioral health outcomes of marginalized communities throughout San Mateo County. ODE works to empower communities; influence policy and system changes; develop strategic and meaningful partnerships; and promote workforce development and transformation within BHRS. 

1) ODE is seeking Community Health Planners.

There are currently two vacancies 1) a permanent Community Health Planner position that will support Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) implementation and technical assistance across BHRS; and 2) a limited-term position, through June 30, 2021, that will support the development and implementation of a comprehensive, outcome-based evaluation, data collection and reporting infrastructure for MHSA funded programs.

2) ODE is seeking Cultural Stipend Internship Program (CSIP) interns.

The 2019-20 Cultural Stipend Internship Program (CSIP) Awardees complete and present their cultural humility related projects to clinic sites, Health Equity Initiatives (HEI), and community groups. CSIP awardees spend the academic year participating in one of nine HEIs and coordinating a year-long project, in addition to their regular duties as clinical interns. 

CSIP provides a stipend of $7,000 awarded annually to up to 10 interns. Awardees are selected based on their expressed interest in and commitment to cultural awareness and social justice in both community and clinical settings; personal identification with marginalized communities; and/ or lived experience with behavioral health conditions. Priority is given to bilingual and/ or bi-cultural applicants whose cultural background and experience is similar to underserved communities in San Mateo County. Once selected, awardees are then matched with an HEI and tasked with conducting a project that helps BHRS becomes more culturally sensitive on a systemic level, and more accessible to marginalized communities.
