San Mateo County Office of Education (SMCOE) is pleased to present The Art of the Possible: Raising Resilient Children and Teens. This free virtual event is next week, on Wednesday, January 27th, from 5:30-6:30pm. There will be live Spanish translation during the event. More information in flyers below.

Parent Project Fall 2019 All Class Flyer

The Parent Project® is a free, 12-week course that is offered in English and Spanish to anyone who cares for a child or adolescent. The classes meet for three hours each week. Parents learn parenting skills and get information about resources and other support available in their communities. Parents/caregivers learn and practice skills such as:

  • appropriate ways to discipline
  • preventing or stopping alcohol, drug and tobacco use
  • improving communication skills
  • improving grades and school attendance

Each class also provides free dinner and childcare to make it as accessible as possible to all parents/guardians.

Free Immigration Consultations And Assistance to Renew Applications

 

Catholic Charities’ Refugee and Immigrant Services Program in San Mateo will be conducting free DACA workshops every Monday until October 2nd and on Tuesday October 3rd. There will also be workshops in the Mexican Consulate in San Francisco on September 22nd. All workshops during this period will be free of cost.

Children with a fear of deportation demonstrate an increased occurrence of social isolation, depression, and anxiety. They can become withdrawn and aggressive, have a deteriorating school performance, and often fight with peers or teachers, putting them at risk for difficulties later in life.
