LEEW Ice Cream Social!
The Lived Experience Education Workgroup (LEEW) held a summer social earlier this month. Fruit and ice pops kept everyone cool, as we took turns asking ice breaker questions such as, “What would others be surprised to know about you?” and “What three words would you use to describe yourself?”.
LEEW is made up of individuals with lived experience who want to use their voice for change. Members regularly attend County meetings to provide input, speak at trainings and on panels, and volunteer at community events. This group challenges stigma by demonstrating the capacity for individuals with lived experience to collaborate, express their needs, and advocate for systems change.
Events like the summer social allow members and staff to socialize in a less structured environment, and to recharge our energy to meet the goals of the fiscal year ahead. It is also a friendly, low pressure atmosphere for prospective members to come meet the group and learn about its purpose.
At the Office of Diversity and Equity, we continually promote personal wellness and community-building. As this social showed, sunshine, fresh air, and refreshing treats do wonders towards both those goals.
LEEW meets on the first Tuesday of each month in San Mateo. People with lived experience, and their family members, are invited to join. To find out more information, see our website: http://www.smchealth.org/LEA or contact BHRSWorkforceDev@smcgov.org.
