Special Screening of Out Run

San Mateo County Pride Center will be presenting a special screening of the Filipino documentary, Out Run, on Friday, September 8th at 6:15 pm.

OUTRUN Screening (3)

The documentary highlights mobilizing working- class transgender hairdressers and beauty queens as the dynamic leaders of the world’s only LGBT political party as they wage a historic quest to elect a trans woman to the Philippine Congress. The film follows Bemz Benedito, leader of the LGBT political party, Ladlad, and her eclectic team of queer political warriors in their quest to challenge the predominantly Catholic nation’s views on LGBT people. Ultimately the film reveals the complexities of modern constructions of sexual life in the Philippines and sheds light on the emerging future of the LGBT equality movement around the globe. Following the film will be a Q&A with filmmakers S. Leo Chiang and Johnny Symons.

This event was proudly sponsored by San Mateo County Behavioral Health & Recovery Services Office of Diversity and Equity, and San Mateo County Pride Initiative.
