Now Open for Public Comment: Mental Health Service Act Annual Update

The San Mateo County Mental Health and Substance Abuse Recovery Commission (MHSARC) released the County’s Draft Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) Annual Update for Programs and Expenditures Fiscal Year 2015-2016 for the 30-day public review/comment period on Wednesday, November 4, 2015.

The public comment period of the Draft Plan is from November 4, 2015 to December 4, 2015.

The Annual Update is available on the MHSA website.  Please review the Annual Update and provide your comments to mhsa@smcgov.org, or by mail to:

Mental Health Consumer Hall of Fame – Nominate Someone by November 20

Each year, San Mateo County’s Mental Health and Substance Abuse Commission honors individuals who have found their way to a path of wellness and recovery from mental illness and/or have been active in the consumer movement to better the lives of other consumers in the county.

The Commission is now accepting nominations for the Consumer Hall of Fame Awards. To nominate an individual complete the nomination form and submit by Friday, November 20.  Refer to the form for more information.   The awards ceremony will be held on January 6th.

David Lewis Award Nominations – August 7 Deadline

The San Mateo County Mental Health & Substance Abuse Recovery Commission is seeking nominees for its annual David Lewis Award – Recognizing Outstanding Contributions towards Recovery. This honor is made to the individual or organization that has made an extraordinary difference in the lives of people with substance abuse disorders and the San Mateo County community. Recognition is given for public education or advocacy around alcohol and other drug abuse issues or to address stigma; services to persons with substance abuse disorders; creation of new and innovative programs or community support activities; recognition of fundraising for substance abuse treatment activities or long-term financial support to substance abuse programs; working for new legislation; compassionate treatment of persons with alcohol and other drug disorders.

Confidentiality of private information is very important. If you are nominating someone who is in recovery, please be sure that they are comfortable revealing their status.

Awards will be presented to honorees at the San Mateo County Mental Health & Substance Abuse Recovery Commission meeting on September 2, 2015. Deadline for award nominations is August 7, 2015.
