Community Support: Immigration Forum at a Time of Uncertainty for Many

On March 23, 2017, the Latino Collaborative and MidPen hosted an Immigration Forum. The Latino Collaborated invited SIREN to speak to the community on immigration rights in San Mateo County (SMC).

The SIREN team educated the 26 attendees on their rights and how to protect themselves and prepare in case of an immigration raid. They also discussed the requirements, benefits, and process of applying for citizenship; provided resources for people to explore for further assistance including a referral list to legal services; and provided information on future immigration forums that will be available in the community.

Attendees had the opportunity to ask questions and get clarification on immigration issues. Getting these answers helped attendees alleviate the stress and fear created by uncertainty about whether they will be able to safely continue living in their SMC communities.

If you’d like to connect with SIREN you can reach them at 1-408-453-3003.
