Voices of Recovery Seeks Volunteers for Board of Directors
Voices of Recovery San Mateo County creates peer-led opportunities for persons in recovery or in need of long term recovery from alcohol or other drug addictions. As such, our agency has a critical role in helping San Mateo County residents with a history of addiction establish a sense of well-being for themselves and their families.
The Board of Directors has a central role in Voices governance, and those with experience and involvement in the community would be an asset to our work. The VORSMC Board is also actively engaged in decision making and policy development. Board meetings are convened monthly, and members may be asked to serve on board sub-committees; The Board of Directors position statement, as well as descriptions of subcommittees, can be made available upon expression of interest in this position.
This is an incredible opportunity to become engaged in your community in a meaningful and impactful way”. In 2017, VORSMC solidified partnerships with mental health and recovery agencies in San Mateo County and were the joint recipient of a multi-year grant for the provision of our services. VORSMC continues to grow and develop, and we hope that you will join us for all that lies ahead.
Drug overdoses were responsible for more than 64,000 deaths in the United States in 2016 – five times that of 1999. 6.4% of individuals 12 years and older suffer from an alcohol use disorder. These are sobering statistics, particularly when we know that it is often our most vulnerable community members suffering the consequences
of drug use and addiction. Founded in 2010, VORSMC has become recognized as an effective advocate and provider of recovery services to peers in need. Our staff and volunteers have a real and dramatic impact in the community.
