Healing Voices Screening
Christopher Jump (Heart & Soul), Ray Mills (Voices of Recovery), and Erica Horn (California Clubhouse), followed the movie screening with a very moving panel. Referring to the movie’s narratives on different mental health experiences, rejection of medication, and recovery, the panelists shared their stories of recovery. It was powerful and humbling to see leaders of organizations be vulnerable about their lived experience.
I learned that everyone is different, and there is not a “one size fits all” road to recovery: medication, coping mechanisms, diagnosis, support, etc..
The movie ended with a consumer of mental health getting in his bed, in his peer support home, and feeling cozy. He said that he finally feels like he has a place that he is safe, after all of the times he was in the hospital bed.
