Rescheduling WRAP and ASIST

We are rescheduling the WRAP facilitator training because of an issue with the original venue.  The new dates are April 4th—8th, 2016.  The official training announcement and application for this training will be sent out in early March.  For those of you who are interested in applying for this training, using your own personal WRAP regularly is a prerequisite for the facilitator training.  Also, you are also encouraged to attend WRAP groups at Voices of Recovery.  See the schedule at:  http://www.vorsmc.org/

The January Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) was postponed and is being rescheduled for Thursday and Friday, March 17th and 18th.  All of those who applied to the January training will be contacted to see if they are available on these new dates.  Participants will then be chosen from the pool of available participants.  Thank you for your patience with this process.

DSM 5 Follow-Up

For those who did not attend either of the two DSM 5 trainings, we have some good resources to help you catch up.  There is a short training on YouTube by Greg Neimeyer, PhD (who conducted a DSM 5 training for the San Mateo Medical Center in September 2015).  The link is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OhVshzYvn8 .  He gives an overview of the major changes from the DSM IV TR to the DSM 5 (and addresses a few diagnostic categories).  It is about an hour, and the actual content starts at about 5:30 minutes in.  If you want more information about changes to specific diagnoses, go to the APA website: www.psychiatry.org/psychiatrists/practice/dsm/dsm-5 and look under the Updated Disorders section.

Reaching Full Capacity for Trainings

We are consistently reaching capacity for all of our BHRS trainings.  Thank you for your interest and participation in our training offerings.  Because of this, we respectfully request that people do not “drop-in” to trainings without prior registration.  Also, if you have registered for a training and cannot attend, please let Kim Westrick (kwestrick@smcgov.org) know as soon as possible, so we can open your slot to someone on the waitlist.

Outside (Non-BHRS) Trainings

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is hosting a Suicide Bereavement Clinician Training Program on February 26th and 27th   in Berkeley.  For more information and to register, go to:  http://afsp.org/event/suicide-bereavement-clinician-training-program/

Reminder to Complete the Spirituality Survey

The BHRS Office of Diversity and Equity’s Spirituality Initiative is conducting a survey of clinicians and clients (and their family members) to see how well BHRS and our contract agencies are meeting the spiritual needs of clients in the treatment/recovery process. This survey will help the Spirituality Initiative determine what services and trainings should be provided in the future.

Providers:  Please take a few moments to fill out the following provider/clinician survey. The last day to complete the survey is March 1, 2016.
